TABLE & NATURE is a young French company producing eco-friendly, lightweight, and hardwearing tableware ideal for outdoor activities. Whether camping, picnicking, traveling by camper van or on a boat, TABLE & NATURE’s natural tableware is designed to accompany you in all situations. It naturally adapts to you and your needs.
The origins of TABLE & NATURE and eco-friendly tableware
At the heart of the project was Pascal.
During a trade show, Pascal discovered biomaterials and recognised their potential. He then looked for an industrial partner who could support his project: “To produce 100% natural, durable, heat-resistant, and biodegradable tableware in France.”
His meeting with Alain in January 2020 was crucial. Together, they developed a preliminary draft for an eco-friendly French tableware project. The very first step was to search for a “natural resin” that could meet the specifications they had set.
Hope: the project of lightweight and durable eco-friendly tableware starts to take shape
Quickly, Pascal brought Mathilde on board for the project; he had met her in a previous professional life. Thanks to her education, personal background, and awareness of environmental issues, Mathilde could bring a broader perspective to the project. So it was only natural that Alain and Pascal asked her to join them on this adventure, which she agreed to. Her contribution was crucial because she came with solid experience in industrial design, which would prove essential. Mathilde was going to bring the project to life with shapes, aesthetics, an identity, and a name: TABLE & NATURE.
The TABLE & NATURE brand was therefore born from three synergies. These three synergies have managed to develop and offer a line of tableware that is eco-friendly, bio-based, made in France, and at the same time practical, lightweight, sustainable, responsible, and aesthetically pleasing.
The doubt: how to develop this eco-friendly and lightweight tableware?
Alain set up a meeting with Pascal and Mathilde, where a little glimmer of hope would appear. Of course, you just have to keep at it… But Alain’s skills as a technician were put to the test and helped find a solution.
Could we manage to create 100% natural tableware that is lightweight and durable (resistant to thermal and mechanical shocks)?
For Pascal, total food contact safety was of course essential, but even more important was ensuring it could go in the microwave and dishwasher. For the three partners, there was no question of creating yet another product that would end up in a landfill without having first developed a solution compatible with their environmental approach. TABLE & NATURE was able to meet all these challenges one after the other. So yes, creating eco-friendly, durable, and sturdy tableware is totally possible!
But how to do it? The biomaterial selected by TABLE & NATURE, PLA, is currently not considered by public authorities as different from other recyclable materials. Yet it is biodegradable only in industrial settings (for now) because it requires high and consistent temperatures. Research on PLA biodegradation is ongoing and hints at the possibility of home biodegradation using enzymes. One day, it might be possible to biodegrade your TABLE & NATURE natural tableware yourself!
Commitment: offering eco-friendly tableware that is zero-waste and biodegradable at the end of its life
For TABLE & NATURE, it was important to find a way to handle the end of life of their products to protect the planet. So, the only option was to manage the disposal of their eco-friendly tableware internally. TABLE & NATURE’s tableware is zero waste and biodegradable. Customers are encouraged to return their natural tableware when it’s reached the end of its life.
TABLE & NATURE promises to cover any costs incurred by issuing a credit note so you can buy new TABLE & NATURE natural tableware. Once returned, we’ll make sure the products are biodegraded… That’s the famous “zero impact” you see on all our items! It’s just giving back to nature what it gives us.
